How it works

Sluice valves operate on the same rising gate principle as gate valves, but are specifically designed and tested to Australian water utility standards (AS 2638).

Penstocks use a similar gate mechanism but are typically installed in open channel or concrete wall applications where a flat plate slides in guides to control water flow, rather than in a pressurised pipeline. Extended spindle options allow operation from the surface for buried installations up to 6m deep.

Typical applications

  • Water supply and distribution networks
  • Wastewater treatment plants
  • Pump station isolation
  • Irrigation and agricultural water systems
  • Stormwater and flood management
  • Dam and reservoir control
  • Civil drainage infrastructure
  • Mining dewatering networks

Key features

  • Sluice valves to AS 2638.1 and AS 2638.2
  • Solid and flexible wedge designs
  • Body materials: cast iron, ductile iron, stainless steel
  • Flanged connections to AS 4087 and AS/NZS 4441
  • Extended spindle for deep burial up to 6m
  • Fusion-bonded epoxy (FBE) coating for corrosion protection
  • Buried and surface box operating options
  • Rising and non-rising stem
