A needle valve uses a long, tapered needle-shaped plunger that slowly enters or withdraws from a small orifice seat as the handwheel is turned. The multi-turn operation over a very small orifice (1.5mm to 6mm) gives needle valves their characteristically fine and repeatable metering capability.
Double-block-and-bleed (DBB) configurations add isolation and bleed capability for instrument maintenance without system shutdown.
